A guide to planning and catering a garden party

A
Quintessentially British and a staple of the summer social calendar, garden parties take a huge amount of organisation. We look at what you need to think about, and explain how we can help.

Organising and planning the catering and the entertainment for a garden party can be daunting, but using an experienced supplier who can cover all these areas will save you precious time and help your budget too!

Once your date has been set, the venue arranged and invitations dispatched, it’s time to tackle the to-do list:

Have a wet weather plan – for guest numbers below 50, a series of gazebos or pagoda marquees will be sufficient to offer shelter against the unpredictable British weather. For larger gatherings however, an open sided marquee is perfect.

Seating – rather than mustering up a mismatched assortment of tables and chairs from friends, family and colleagues, table and chair hire will give a coordinated and styled aesthetic. Add in to the mix table linen hire and your guests are in for a truly VIP experience.

Décor & entertainment – let thoughts turn to cream teas in a bunting festooned setting with crisp linen and quaint tea sets. Garden party packages have everything you need, including centrepieces and table runners, while a Best of British party decorations package includes bunting, props and theming.  Garden party games hire including skittles and croquet will keep everyone happy while a face painter will keep little ones amused all afternoon.

Catering & refreshments – offering a traditional afternoon tea menu is always popular at garden parties and should include a choice of freshly cut sandwiches served on cake stands with china crockery and waiting staff. If you prefer to move away from the traditional, BBQ catering is a popular alternative.  Whatever your preferred menu choice however, thought must be given to particular dietary needs. Refreshments could take the form of tea and coffee with a choice of sparkling and soft drinks.
