Things to consider when styling an event marquee
- How will you use the marquee? - Are you having an outdoor ceremony in the marquee or will you be holding the reception only in it? Will there be dancing or entertainment?
- Calculate guest numbers and think about seating plans - Will guests need to be seated, for example for a sit down meal, or are you serving finger foods or a buffet?
- Consider the theme of your wedding - Are you going for an intimate, relaxed feel or a rustic atmosphere? Or perhaps you are hosting a more traditional celebration with a formal wedding breakfast and order of events.
- Take in to account the time of year – Will it be warm outside or are you having a winter wedding? This will impact on whether you need to think about marquee heating.
How to dress a marquee
Make a grand entrance statement! Whatever your style of wedding, dressing the entrance of the marquee to welcome guests with the wow factor is a great idea. Extravagant arrangements of fresh flowers are impactful but may well eat up a large chunk of your budget. If styling your marquee yourself, cost effective artificial topiary trees look elegant and stylish, and can be dressed with ribbon and bows to match your colour scheme.
Table and chair hire
Unless you plan to go into the events business after your wedding, it makes sense to hire tables and chairs. Choose from circular or rectangular tables – a traditional top table could comprise rectangular tables while guests could dine in the round so everyone can chat to each other.
Table linen hire
Style your tables with coordinating wedding table linen hire for a truly chic and professional feel. Dress your tables with table cloths, cloth napkins and table runners that echo your colour scheme and finish off with a centrepiece of candles or tealights for a truly romantic atmosphere.
Dance floor hire
As daytime celebrations turn into evening entertainment, provide a dedicated space for your first dance as a married couple, and for guests to dance the night away. A traditional parquet-effect dance floor will suit most styles of wedding or, for that splash of romance, a twinkling, star lit dance floor is perfect.
How do you make a marquee look rustic?
Rustic-themed wedding celebrations have increased in the last few years and are particularly suited to outdoor and marquee venues. Think natural fabrics and colours, perhaps hessian table runners with matching bunting and walkways adorned with lanterns containing tealights and foliage.
Are marquee weddings cold?
They don’t have to be! Marquee heating today is sophisticated, offering silent and odourless units that pump hot air into the marquee from outside, through ducting. Highly efficient and safe, modern marquee heaters can be controlled by an indoor thermostat so winter wedding guests will feel warm and cosy even after dark when the temperature drops.
Where to source marquee décor
When styling your own wedding, it pays to use reliable and experienced suppliers who can offer advice and support to you. Suppliers who are able to provide everything you need, in a ‘one-stop’ shop will save you time and money as they may be able to offer discounts on packages.
