Keeping summer wedding guests cool

Keeping
Our unpredictable British weather means many engaged couples choose the summer months to marry, in the hope of warmer weather. Here, we give you our top tips to help keep guests cool.

The summer of 2022 saw the UK experience unprecedented summer temperatures. If we continue on this path, then summer brides and grooms, wedding planners and coordinators need to put measures in place to prevent guests from suffering in the heat and to keep them comfortable.

Providing shade for an open air ceremony

The growing trend for outdoor ceremonies means that guests need protection from every type of weather, from scorching sunshine to rain showers. The perfect way to supply shade in hot weather is by way of a canopy, which can also provide shelter from more inclement weather. Where a ceremony is being followed by a reception at the same location, a great way of doing this is with a traditional marquee.

Traditional marquee hire

Metal framed, clear span marquees offer airy interiors with no awkward construction poles taking up space, putting the entire internal space at your disposal. With sizes from 5m x 12m up to 12m x 35m, marquees are suitable for weddings of all sizes. The bonus of providing a marquee for shelter is that once the ceremony is over, sides can be added, along with décor, to transform it into the perfect reception venue.

Provide shaded seating areas for guests

Outdoor weddings and receptions need to have areas in the shade where guests, particularly the old and frail, as well as youngsters, can take refuge and relax out of the sun. An original and attractive way of doing this is with a pagoda marquee.

Pagoda marquee hire

Ideal for smaller ceremonies, pagoda marquees are also the perfect way to provide areas of sheltered seating for guests in hot weather. In the style of a Japanese pagoda, with elegant shaped roofs, these marquees can be joined together to create larger spaces, and feature sides that can be dropped as the evening approaches and temperatures cool.

Provide cold drinks for wedding guests

While the provision of alcoholic beverages will surely be welcome, it’s important that guests have access to a supply of chilled, non-alcoholic beverages. Mobile bar equipment from The ALS Group includes dry hire bars or complete bar hire packages and we supply bottle fridges, ice machines, and refrigerated trailer hire for food and drink storage.

Provide refreshing snacks and refreshments

Where celebrations extend beyond the ceremony and any formal reception meal, guests will appreciate cooling snacks and refreshments. Anyone on holiday understands how refreshing and cooling an ice cream can be so why not provide guests with a traditional ice cream cart or a soft ice cream machine? And younger guests who are likely to be running round, are sure to appreciate a snow cone or slushy to keep temperatures down.
